The music of the Grateful Dead spans generations and has become, a slice of Americana that has been woven into the fabric of many lives of music lovers all over this country. The most unique part of this cultural phenomenon are the fans that have not only followed the Grateful Dead themselves, but also all of the Dead tribute bands that continue to keep the music and spirit alive for decades. The Philadelphia area is one of the places in the country that is rich with Deadheads and musicians alike that keep the good times rolling on and on by performing this iconic music. With that said, over the years, it has become a bit competitive between the bands and the fans as every weekend, there are several events to choose from, dead bands often find themselves “going against” other bands events. This feeling of “rivalry”  is not what the spirit and the mindset of this culture should be. The path that was laid out by the Dead so many years ago, was always paved in love, kindness and inclusion.  With this in Mind, Dean Rubenstein came up with an Idea to bring all of the Dead Bands and their fans together. With the help and trust of the management of legendary  rock club Sweeney’s Philly, “ Grateful
Monday” was launched in the summer of 2024. This unique event has quickly become a tradition on the first Monday
Of every month. If you ever have the pleasure of attending one of these events, you will witness the result of an experiment that has successfully brought together deadheads, music lovers and musicians that were previously segregated and often disconnected. In September of 2024, we plan to launch “Grateful Monday Acoustic” which will take place on the third Monday of every month. This promises to be very much like it’s predecessor, except more like a “campfire sing-along” to create even more of a sense of community, by including the audience as a part of the overall experience. There is never a cover charge for these events so, whether you are a “Deadhead” or just a lover of good times and great music, come on out to Sweeney’s Philly, every other Monday, with an open mind, and dancing shoes. Otherwise, nothing left to do but Smile, Smile, Smile!
